I think some would prefer a system that would guarantee they get something really valuable out of the chest.

Chests are now totally random, and this is way better than the old system which created situations where the first to open had to bear all the risk, and the old chest running groups who exploited the non-randomness of item color of the following drops.

I like the old system because it gives you a benefit to grouping, since you can have a different person test each chest and then average out to less than 1 wasted key per area, instead of like 3-5 per person per area.

it gives another 'challange' to the game so ur never sure u get a gold out of a chest, i like the system like it is now

I too prefer the old system of one-colored chests. It made it easier for multiplayer chest runs, because you didn't have to waste as many keys. 1st person in line opens it; grape, move on to next chest/2nd person. Now, however, you have to use a key every time you see a chest if you want a chance for a gold item.

the way i see it is if you open a chest in real life if it has a gold coin in it why wouldn't it have more of the same thing?.. its not like some kind of magic box with different compartments..

I'd prefer that the chests actually drop gold items. After 80 keys (600g+), I walked away with 8-10 golds.

So the randomized between players, OK.
The current method of being 99.989876998% purple, is Bad.
All items from 600+g keys being purple, uh how is that random again?
I guess as long as 1 in 4,678,900 chests opened, drops a gold, it counts as random...

you forgot a choice. the original keyless one use chests. Those are what I liked. because the person that got there first got the chest. Period. 1 use and it was done... Whatever it was. Consider yourself lucky you get multi use chests now at all as far as I'm concerned... I would have rather them remove chests entirely from the game then to have it become what it was with the always gold chests using keys...

Sure some sucker got nailed in the group to test the chest, and if it was gold everyone then started BEGGING for keys. Ohh piss off then... If you didn't give them one they would DC and screw your party. Especially in fissure of woe.

At least now if you want to open a chest its a toss up for everyone. But you still have the huge gold sink of having keys for items that are not worth the cost of the key in 99.8% of the time. so basically keys and chests are just to be ignored for the most part as a waste of gold in the game in my opinion. In the off chance you get a gold item its never worth anywhere where near the cost of the key EVER. Sure if you use the flawed inflation market system it maybe but I will NEVER use that. No one in this game that uses trade does it fairly, or justly, or without bias. thus it is not worth the bits they transmit in my opinion. All you do is support gold resellers when you use the inflation market. If it is not through a NPC is it not fairly regulated.

Hence the Continued need for the auction house which has been promised, Tested as a service, and teased at being added for month upon months now. Yet it has never and I highly doubt will ever be added to the game. Truth be told Anet Likes people selling stuff for 100k +50ecto... That's all I can derive from the situation. They have a working system they refuse to implement... What else can one say but that they want the flawed and corruptible system that is in the game as it is right now?

NPCs have no fixed reliable pricing.
There is no Decent price check system for items other then hearsay.
IDing base values are a joke for resale value to NPCs.
Keys are too expensive to be worth buying and using for what you get.

These are facts... No one can dispute them... This is why practically all that is left in this game are the inflator farmers. Hardly anyone plays the game anymore to play it. Most are all off farming for more crap playing the market game, not guild wars.

Mark my words eventually all that will be left in this game is the people farming gold for resell. As it is in Oh so many MMOs anymore. Its not worth it anymore to be bothered in most. The only saving grace in GW is that its free to play, in the OFF CHANCE anyone wants too.

I know I know I know its because Blizzard brought the thing to court to get Arenanet to stop it under copyright infringement lawsuits, but still, it could be called something else, or implemented in another way that will not infringe on Blizzards copyright. Call it a Swapmeet or something for crying out loud. Or Traders Service, or marketplace, or Market listings, Or ANYTHING!!!

Well, in that case, there's no incentive to form groups, then. Also, whenever someone sees a chest, they'd be rushing over there to open it, which would be 100 times worse than what we currently have.

The reason I didn't include that one is because I was referring to the recent update that changed the chest system.

The old chest system was a lot better than it is now. Hells Precipice ID1 is empty, Imperial Sanctum AD1 is empty, even TOA/FoW chestrunners have significantly shrunk in size.

People who say it messes with the economy obviously dont chestrun for a living. We lose more money than we gain, we put more money into the economy than u think. Granted, there are lucky bastards that get a good one every once in a while, but 99% of chestrunners get a majority of grape drops now. With the old system, sure we got gold more often because 1/8 was taking the risk, but out of that gold chest, do you really think we get items that we can sell for for more than 1k? 90% of the golds most chestrunners get is merchant fodder, sure we can sell mods, but have u honestly tried selling mods in Kamadan, LA, Kaineng? You'd be lucky to sell anything that isnt perfect and granted almost all of the mods on golds are imperfect. So the only way chestrunners make back what they spent or not lose money too quickly was to sell unid golds, and it was a GREAT system, almost all the golds we sold were crap and the buyer just wanted them for widsom titles.

So before u go ranting on about how chestrunners are messing up the economy, think about how much money we lose just to find that perfect or near perfect item that YOU want and are willing to pay for. We provide a service, so dont hypocritically resent us when u cant afford what we sell, when it is the very system that most of you depend on when spamming WTB in major towns.

60% of my friends list is Chestrunners, what happened? None of em are on anymore. It was a social gathering and it was fun, sometimes we get a leecher but 1/8 isnt bad. Now the chestrunners are gone, the rare skins are even MORE rare as they are less chest farmed, and the prices are even MORE inflated. Like i said, our service provide more of those rare skins driving down the price so most people can afford it, but apparently most people dont understand economics. And yet chestrunners are screwing up the economy how?

New system is by far better. I hate the old system where I would run with a group in Raisu and people would spend 3 minutes rolling to be the first one opening the chest. It lets people grow some balls and open the chests themselves instead of trying to save that 600g key and waste everyone's time.

I prefer the new system for sure - it just makes more sense to me that way.

I never used to go in chest runs because I always saw the mechanic of 1 colour for a chest as being rather unnatural, so don't miss the higher rate of gold drops that one used to be able to get by having one person "test" a chest.

It surprises me to hear that many others are getting 10% gold drops only as mine are around one third (33%). So far I find chests a gamble, but overall a worthwhile one - yesterday I just received my 2nd (ever) superior vigour . During the Elonan double drop weekend, I was getting about 2/3 gold drops too....

FWIW the main regions I'm going around are the Echovald Forest (I just love that place!) and Vabbi.

Yes, some of the golds I've obtained are kinda meh, but the value of the decent golds has made up for that financially for me, so it's working out pretty well on the whole at the moment I'd say.

Perhaps some people's lower gold drop rate from chests could result from having triggered some kind of anti-farm code? I don't know of course...I'm merely speculating here...

The drop rate is actually the same as before. I usually see about 1-2 golds in a Raisu run of 4-5 chests, compared to about 1 in 3 golds right now. The reason why people think it's better before is they have a scapegoat test the chests, so if there's 5 chests and 1 is gold, only 4 purples will pop up but everyone will open the gold chest and results in 8 golds. That's why people think drop rate used to be higher, even though it's not. Also there are less people sitting around in Raisu waiting for chest runs is because
1) faction is abandoned
2) a lot of people are solo running now that there are no more chest testing
3) it's faster to solo run since you don't have to wait to make/join a group and wait for people to test chests.

i dunno if i'm just unlucky but everytime i'm the first to open a chest i get a purple drop while ppl after that get gold. every single time i opened first i got purple in UW. i feel quite frustrated.

Just a quick thought. A lot of people have mentioned that it's unfair for the one person to open the chest first on a chest run. What if there were an in-game random number generator, and it will spit out a number from 1-8 randomly, and whoever it picks will open the chest first. Wouldn't that make it a lot fairer?

Ok, so I honestly couldn't care less about anything you said about the economy. I simply play the game and don't really care what anything costs beyond what I buy from merchants...and if something costs too much for me, I simply don't buy it. So let's ignore that topic as I agree with you that chest runners do not mess up the economy.

As far as the rest of what you said goes, I would hope you and your friends were chest running because you had fun either (a) opening chests or (b) running. Well guess what, you can still do both. Just because you each have to spend gold on a key for each chest does not make chest running a bad gamble. It just makes the stakes a little higher

ps - If the thing you thought was fun was (c) selling gold items and making bags of gold for minimal effort, well, be glad you enjoyed it while it lasted It takes a little more doing now but I don't think it's unreasonable.

I really don't care because I solo Veil chests. So easy. 90% of the things I get are gold. I make a pretty good profit; I don't think I will ever run out of money.
